Shigaraki is located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, and is recognised as playing a significant part in the long history of Japanese ceramics. It is included as one of Japan's six old kilns – being said to have a history of 1260 years. In 1976 Shigaraki-yaki (Shigaraki ware) was designated as a traditional craft in Japan.
Hechimon is a collection of Japanese ceramics by a third-generation Shigaraki-yaki maker, Marui Seito. The ceramic sake bottle and cups are a matching set in simple elegant forms and a brown copper finish. A mixture of brown and caramel tones appear due to the kiln firing process, and are similar in colour to muted copper. As every cup is handcrafted, each is unique and will differ slightly from piece to piece (including ceramic shape, size, and glaze colour).
These ceramic pieces come packaged in a smoked lidded bamboo basket – perfect for gift giving and storage. This basket has been handwoven with thin strips of natural bamboo in a simple yet textural weave by skilled artisans in Laos for Mujo's permanent collection.
